Improve Your Skills
The Gliding Centre is one of the country's premier training facilities, boasting seven day a week operations during the flying season, a modern high performance glider fleet, winch and aerotow launch facilities and a team of highly experienced gliding instructors.
This enables us to offer students and pilots from other clubs the opportunity to accelerate their training and development through our one and five day courses.
For 2016 we're delighted to have Mike Till, one of the most experienced glider pilots and instructors in the world, as Resident Instructor. With over 12,000 gliding hours and 55 years instructing experience, Mike is world known for his enormous experience and fantastic teaching style.
We offer one day and five day courses that are tailored to the specific needs of each student, whether they be brand new starters to gliding, experienced pilots looking to develop advanced skills, or anywhere in between. Whether you are looking for a one-day intensive, or a five-day holiday, we can cater for your needs.
On our courses we maintain a very low student to instructor ratio to ensure that each student makes the best progress possible during their course. Typically we operate with no more than two students per instructor throughout the course.
“I was struggling to find somewhere to complete training
towards my XC Endorsement. I rang up The Gliding Centre on a Friday and
was booked in the following week. Great clubhouse and atmosphere, very welcoming people.
I would highly recommend The Gliding Centre to any visiting glider pilots
requiring training and examination.” Keith -2016
Contact Us to discuss your objectives for the course and we will structure the training accordingly.
When you book your course on-line, you will be charged our standard course fees. These are based on a standard profile of winch launches and aerotows to 2,500 feet.
In certain cases, your objectives might mean that we need to charge you an additional fee, for example aerobatics training typically requires all launches to be high areotows. We will confirm this with you when we discuss your course objectives at the time of booking your course dates.

What about the weather?
We all know and love our wonderful British weather! In fact, we can fly in most conditions, but some weather is unsuitable for gliding, typically related to very strong winds, low cloud-base, poor visibility or rain. If the weather prevents us from flying on a particular day then we will use the time to concentrate on the briefing / ground school elements and then make up the flying time on the remaining days.
If we cannot make up the time or if the weather is poor for more than one day we will offer you a pro-rata refund, or the opportunity to join another course for the balance of days. At the end of the day we want you to have value for money whatever the weather and to progress with learning to fly.
Non-flying family and friends are welcome to stay with you during the course. For the non-flyer, there are many local attractions within easy reach.
